Bible Study: Delivered From the Powers of Darkness!

"Giving thanks unto the Father, who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: And, Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son." [Col 1:12-13]

A serious mistake made by the Body of Christ is that so many people are seeking deliverance from certain things: primarily deliverance from sickness and affliction, or the attacks of the devil. They pray - they hold all-night deliverance meetings - they get prayer circles praying for them - and on and on and on….. all for the purpose of seeking God to deliver them from this or that.
   

Scripture Reference:
"For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." [1John 3:8]
 

THE POWER OF THE DEVIL DESTROYED:
God in His wisdom has revealed to mankind thru His Holy Word that the whole reason why Christ came to earth was to DESTROY the works of the devil. Hallelujah!
 
And, in order to assure that there remained no possibility of failure in the Lord's mission to earth, He left all of His divine attributes in heaven [ Phil 2:8 ] and was born in the same fashion and manner of all men: Flesh and Blood.
 
• "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." [Heb 2:14-15]
 
• "Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father" [Gal 1:3-4]
 

NOTICE SEVERAL KEY ELEMENTS:
The scriptures reveal several keys to our deliverance that most Christians miss because of lack of understanding what Christ accomplished on the cross. This is usually a result of incorrect teaching based upon traditional religious thinking, or as result of a simple refusal by the individual to accept and believe what the New Testament scriptures state. We can see the summation of all that has been accomplished for us in the following verses:
 
1] "And (Jesus) having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it." [Col 2:15] - - - - The Amplified Bible translates this passage like this: "[God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross]."

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION:
Most Christians believe that the devil HAS the power to kill them, to destroy them, to curse them, to make them sick, to rob them, etc….
 
The reason why they believe this is because they mistakenly believe that the statement made by Jesus in John 10:10 tells us that the devil (called the thief here) has the 'power' to steal, kill, destroy. "The thief comes to steal, kill, destroy" [John 10:10]

However, these individuals fail to consider two key things that are missing in their analogy:

1. The passage only states that the reason the devil (called the thief) comes is to steal, kill, destroy. But nowhere in the passage does it state that he has the 'power' to do so - only that he 'comes' to do these things. Much like a burglar who comes to steal - but as long as you don't let him in he cannot succeed!
    

2. The statement made by the Lord in John 10:10 was BEFORE He went to the cross and was resurrected in power. According to Colossians 2:15, when Christ was resurrected he STRIPPED Satan of all His power and authority, 'triumphing OVER him, and making a show of him openly!"

Moreover, Hebrews 2:14 states clearly that the devil HAD the power over death, to kill, steal, rob us of our health, prosperity, etc…. Notice that the word used is "HAD" - NOT "has".
 
It is important for every believer to know, and understand that the ONLY power the devil, and all his minions have over us TODAY… is the ability to DECEIVE, to trick us into believing the lie that he can hurt or harm us - or even destroy us. But - the truth is that he no longer has the power to do any of these things unless we ALLOW him.
 

DO NOT ALLOW HIM:
"Give No place to the devil…..RESIST the devil and he WILL FLEE from you"
[Eph 4:27 • James 4:7]
 
The scriptures clearly state that not only CAN we resist the devil's efforts to harm us, but also when we RESIST him he will FLEE from us (in terror). What people fail to realize and believe is that the devil is more afraid of us than most Christians can imagine.
 

YOU HAVE BEEN DELIVERED:
Another serious mistake made by the Body of Christ is that most people are seeking deliverance from certain things: primarily deliverance from sickness and affliction, or the attacks of the devil. They pray - they hold all-night deliverance meetings - they get prayer circles praying for them - and on and on and on….. all for the purpose of seeking God to deliver them from this or that.
 
However, NOWHERE in the New Testament are we instructed to pray for deliverance from the devil or the powers of darkness. We ARE instructed to pray that we (and others) be "delivered from wicked and unreasonable MEN" [2THess 3:2] - - but NOWHERE are we told in the NEW Testament to pray about the devil, or against the devil (as so many incorrectly do today)!
 

THE REASON IS SIMPLE:
Someone might protest: :How can you say that Pastor Moran, after all - How will we delivered from the attacks of the devil if we don't ask God to deliver us?
 
The reason is simple:
We HAVE ALREADY BEEN delivered! Read Colossians 1:12-13carefully.
"Giving thanks unto the Father, ….who HAS delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son"
 
Did you notice that the SCRIPTURES state that we HAVE BEEN delivered? God HAS delivered us - it is a statement of what HAS BEEN DONE and what WAS accomplished for us by the death and resurrection of Christ.
 
We are no longer waiting for God to deliver us - but rather we are to BELIEVE that He HAS delivered us and then RECEIVE that deliverance BY FAITH.
 
Just as we believe that salvation was made available by the death and resurrection of Christ - and then received it by faith - so to with deliverance: We are to BELIEVE that the deliverance HAS BEEN provided - and the RECEIVE it by faith.

"For if because of one man's trespass (sin) death reigned through that one (Adam), much more surely will those who RECEIVE God's overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] REIGN AS KINGS in life through faith in the one Man Jesus Christ" [Romans 5:17 Amp]
 

RECEIVE YOUR DELIVERANCE:
Just as we received salvation by faith - so too we can receive deliverance. It is by FAITH that these things manifest in our life. Faith is BASED upon the written word of God. Faith does NOT go by what it "sees", but rather it goes by what God SAID.
 
God has said that He HAS delivered us, and because it is impossible for God to lie, we MUST therefore BE delivered. Now it is up to us to RECEIVE that deliverance BY FAITH - and when we do the devil will FLEE from us and any hold that he has had on us thru deception will disintegrate.
 
It is when we RECEIVE the abundance of God's grace for deliverance, healing, provision, etc that we begin to EXPERIENCE the manifestation of His promises in our life [Rom 5:17]
 
Stop praying for deliverance, healing, provision like so many do yet never experience the manifestation of it - and instead BELIEVE what God has said about these things and RECEIVE them by faith. When you do, the blessings that God has already provided will begin to manifest in such abundance that you will surely cry out in joy: 'My cup runneth over!"
