We should never be surprised when we
experience opposition as we endeavor to
walk by faith. Jesus said that "In this
world we will have troubles" (John
16:33). Add to this the fact that we
have an adversary who opposes all the
good plans that the Lord has for us.

Scripture References:
• "The thief comes only to steal and kill
and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and
have it to the full." [John 10:10 NIV]
• "But try to remember the former days of your past
in which, after you were first spiritually
enlightened, you endured a great and painful struggle..."
[Hebrews 10:32 PSRV]
• "Beloved, don't be surprised or shocked by the
fiery troubles that are coming in order to test,
try and purify your faith..." [1Peter 4:12 PSRV]
THE GOOD NEWS:
No one can doubt the fact that Jesus stated implicitly that the
reason He came was so that we might have life and have it more
abundantly. It is true that there are many aspects of that life that are
often discussed and debated, yet no matter how we examine His statement
there is no doubt that He did say that His desire and His reason for
coming was to bring LIFE and to bring it MORE ABUNDANTLY.
If this is true, then we must ask the question: "Did Jesus succeed in
His mission?" If so, then He must have GIVEN us the abundant life that
He came to give. Scripture verifies this where it
confirming success of Jesus' mission saying:
• "According as his divine power has given unto us
all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge
of him that has called us to glory and virtue:"
[2Peter 1:3 KJV]
Therefore, since we HAVE been given all things that pertain to the
abundant life that Jesus came to give us, it is now OUR responsibility
to walk in these things BY FAITH, leaning upon the promises of God and
trusting HIM to bring them to pass in our life as we live the life of
faith that we are
called to.
EXPECT OPPOSITION:
Unfortunately, as much as we would prefer otherwise we have an enemy, an
ADVERSARY whose sole intent is to OPPOSE anything that the Lord has
accomplished for us at the cross and who WILL try to prevent us from
ACCESSING the promised blessings of God. There are many reasons why this
is so but primarily because the devil knows his time is short and is
doing everything he can to delay his eventual demise.
So, our adversary (the devil) as well as natural circumstances and
situations conspire together
against the people of God to hinder and if possible prevent us from
walking in the blessings of
health and healing, supply and provision, and the deliverance and safety
promised in the Word of God and purchased for us by Christ at the cross.
PREPARE TO MEET THE OPPOSITION:
The Scriptures not only warn us of our enemy, but they also instruct us
over and over again to
PREPARE to meet the enemy head-on to RESIST him steadfast in the faith:
• "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:
whom RESIST steadfast in the faith..." [1Peter 5:8-9]
• "Submit yourselves therefore to God. RESIST the
devil, and he will flee from you."
[James 4:7]
• "Fight the good fight of faith…"
[1Timothy 6:12]
Like it or not the ONLY way to OVERCOME the attacks of the enemy who
seeks to oppose us and our efforts to walk in the abundant life promised
by Jesus Himself is to FIGHT the good fight of faith - to RESIST the
attacks of the enemy and to stand steadfast in faith trusting in the
promises of God to see us through.
• "No test or temptation that comes your way is
beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to
remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be
pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through
it."
[1Corinthians 10:13 Message]
DO NOT BE AFRAID NOR BE DISMAYED:
Deuteronomy 31:8 tells us: "The LORD himself goes
before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake
you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
There is nothing to be afraid of, nor should we ever doubt our ability
to overcome the opposition. We have the promises of Almighty God to
assure us of success and victory:
• "For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the
world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith"
[1John 5:4]
• "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified;
do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever
you go." [Joshua 1:9]
EXPECT OPPOSITION, yet be assured that we can always trust the
Lord to fulfill His Word, knowing He has promised us victory over
anything that opposes us providing we are willing to stand without fear
and resist the enemy when it comes.
